The serial number on the scope’s mount indicates the rifle was likely used by the post-war Polish People’s Army which was known for the practice, Soviet issued rifles did not have this feature normally. The scope despite its Soviet markings was likely produced by the German Carl Zeiss optics company, which explains the serial number which is not in Cyrillic. The rifle has an attached 4x model PT scope. Our Assessment: This Izhevsk model 1891/30 Mosin Nagant is a bolt action rifle with fixed 5 round magazine that takes 7.62x54mmR rounds. Also there is a cleaning rod that is attached to the forend stock. The sling is discolored from its age, its markings have been blacked out with the exception of a “2”. There is an included sling that is attached to the rifle. The trigger is crisp. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.īox Paperwork and Accessories: The scope is described in the sights and optics section. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition. The screwheads have toolmarks but remain serviceable. Also the bolt’s lever has a light crack on the top where it meets the body of the bolt. Notably, the front of the barrel and magazine have some handling wear and the metal parts have minor discoloration from oxidation. Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish as refinished. There is some erosion in the grooves but the lands are bright.

The stocks are in Very Good Plus overall condition as refinished.īore Condition: The rifling is sharp. The LOP measures 13 ½ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. There is some dark residue from the refinish on the stocks. The handguard and forearm show several scrapes that have damaged or removed several areas of the finish. Notably, the refinished buttplate has light surface erosion showing through the finish and handling wear. There are handling marks, scratches, scrapes and nicks. Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The two-piece refinished wood stock has a semi-pistol grip, cutout for the included cleaning rod on the forend, two barrel bands, two sling eyelets, through bolt and a metal buttplate. The scope has some handling wear and patches of mild surface oxidation but remains in Very Good condition. The scope has “German style” post reticle. 1931G.” on top of a box with a star atop a hammer and sickle and two pentagons marked with a Western serial number (not in Cyrillic) “N13471” and Cyrillic date of “1934G.” The right side of the scope’s base is marked with the serial number “5209”.
The scope is marked with Cyrillic markings on the eyepiece “U. There is an attached 4x PT scope and first type mount. There is also a Type 5 tangent leaf rear sight with U notch which is graduated in 100s of meters from 1-20, inclusive. Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a dovetailed post on a ramp with a protective hood. We have not removed the scope base to inspect for additional markings, it is likely that there are import marks under the scope base.
The top of the buttplate is marked with the serial number.
The right side of the butt has a box with a slash through it, a box marked “P” and “5”. The bolt is marked with the serial number, an Izhevsk proof and several faded proof marks. The top of the barrel shank is marked with Izhevsk proofs including “8” in a box, “P”, a hammer & sickle surrounded by wheat, 1938, a circle marked “O”, a circle marked “I”, a box marked “kh”, the serial number and the Izhevsk arrow in a triangle. The top of the semi-pistol grip is marked with several proofs including a “6”. The bottom of the magazine is marked with the Izhevsk arrow inside a triangle proof, the serial number “IE5209” and a crossed out “P YU 3344”. Markings: All markings are in Cyrillic and have been romanized.
